Huddersfield Town have loaned teenage striker Daniel Carr to League II promotion chasers Fleetwood.

And that could signal a return to the reckoning for his fellow frontman Martin Paterson when Mark Robins’ side resume Championship business at Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.

Former Burnley player Paterson has been nursing a hand injury, but played for Northern Ireland in Friday’s 1-0 friendly defeat in Turkey.

Now he could feature for Town for the first time since being left out for the home derby against Leeds, before which he was allegedly involved in a training-ground bust-up.

Town’s 11-goal top scorer James Vaughan is a sure-fire starter in Sheffield after completing a three-match ban, but Paterson will also hope for a chance.

Former Reading trainee Carr, who joined up with Town in the summer after a season at non-league Dulwich Hamlet, has come off the bench to figure in the last two Championship games, at Wigan and at home to Birmingham.

Now the 19-year-old, whose sole start to date came in the Capital One Cup third-round tie at Hull, and who has netted 10 times for Town’s Under 21 side, has the chance to gain further first-team experience at Fleetwood.

His initial stint on the West coast runs until December 21, taking in five league games, starting with Saturday’s visit of Mansfield.

Fleetwood, in only their second season of Football League membership, are fourth in the table under manager Graham Alexander, the former Preston player, whose squad includes ex-Town loan striker Jon Parkin.

“Daniel has impressed in our development side, and we’re excited to see how he handles the step up to a team near the top of a tough division,” said Robins.

“We have been very happy with his transition from non-league to our ranks and this is an opportunity to get a taste of football far different from our Under 21 side.

“We have a number of options in attack now with the return of James Vaughan and Martin Paterson, while Cristian Lopez is back from his loan at Shrewsbury, so the timing for Daniel to go out is good.”
