DANNY WARD is confident that if Huddersfield Town can set up a supply line, Jordan Rhodes and Lee Novak can fire them into the Championship.

Rhodes has hit the headlines by scoring 40 goals so far this season, but Novak has also weighed in, with 17 against his name going into today’s big Wembley showdown with Sheffield United.

And winger Ward, playing in his third successive League I play-off final after Swindon in 2010 and Town last year, believes they will have a crucial role.

“For Jordan to be ripping the league apart by scoring that many goals this season has been unbelievable and to remain so humble about everything is amazing,” he said. “It shows what kind of a person he is and he has to be the best goalscorer I’ve played with. You put him in the positions and it’s in the back of the net.

“He’s got fantastic ability and is great to play with because you know if you’re going to whip a ball in, Jordan’s going to be on the end of it nine times out of 10.

“Throw in Lee Novak, who never stops running and must be a nightmare to play against, and it means we have two real dangermen up front.”

Sheffield United had been fired for the bulk of this season by the goals of Ched Evans, until the Wales international was jailed last month after being found guilty of rape.

The absence of the 35-goal frontman coincided with a late United wobble that meant arch-rivals Sheffield Wednesday pipped them to automatic promotion.

But Ward, a summer signing from Bolton after his successful loan stint at Town last season, warned: “They’ve lost their main striker, but they’ve still got a great side.

We’ve watched them in both their play-off games so far, so we know the areas in which they are strong and we have worked on a plan to counter them.”

Ward, pictured, who played under Blades boss Danny Wilson on loan to Swindon, will use the memories of two final defeats as a spur.

“It will stand me in good stead,” added the 21-year-old. “I know what to expect, but I don’t want to come away with the same feelings.

“There’s quite a few of us who were in that dressing room last year who don’t want to come away with that feeling of devastation. We’re eager to put that right.

“It would be the high point of my career without a doubt. It’s something I’ve been close to achieving for the last two years.

“To win at Wembley and win promotion for Huddersfield would be by far the biggest achievement in my career so far.”
