HUDDERSFIELD Town 'keeper Simon Eastwood was a penalty shoot-out hero for Bradford City last night.

On loan at Valley Parade until January, the 20-year-old made three fine saves in the decider to send City into the Northern Area semi-finals.

After a 2-2 home draw against Port Vale, for whom ex-Town player John McCombe was among the scorers, Eastwood came to the fore as City won 5-4 on penalties.

"I thought he was assured throughout and he made some good saves in the shoot-out," said City manager Stuart McCall. "I’m delighted we’re through."

Eastwood was also a hero in the previous round when City managed to scrape past Notts County.

Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo has been ruled out of Portugal’s World Cup play-off against Bosnia-Herzegovina due to his long-term ankle injury.

The Portuguese football federation had been hoping to have the star winger available for the two-legged tie.

The 24-year-old travelled to Lisbon to undergo tests with his home federation, who subsequently ruled him out.
