HUDDERSFIELD Town's new frontman Martin Paterson has high hopes following his move and is desperate to reward manager Mark Robins’ faith in him.

The 26-year-old Northern Ireland striker wants to make the most of his two-year contract and prove he’s the man who can give Huddersfield Town genuine goal power.

Last season’s top scorer was James Vaughan on 14 and Paterson believes he can go to 20 and beyond – but he knows he has to prove that on the pitch.

He’s been impressed with Robins and with the set-up at Canalside and feels Town can provide the platform for his ambitions.

“I’m excited about getting to know all the lads – we have some very good players – and working hard towards the season,” said Paterson, who started his career at Stoke before a spell with Scunthorpe United.

“It would be naive of me to start talking about getting in the top six before we’ve even kicked a ball, but if we can make a decent start and create some togetherness then anything is possible in the Championship.

“I’m proud to have played in the Premier League, but I’m looking forward to showing I’m now a better player than I was back then.

“It was good to learn just how good the top players are and, having tasted the Premier League, I want to get back to it. That’s my aim in my career. Regardless of whether I achieve it or not, that’s my aim.”

On Robins, he added: “I’ve been impressed with him and what he’s had to say to me.

“He’s been great in getting the deal over the line and I like what he says about how he wants me to play.

“I’m happy down the middle regardless of whether I’m playing alongside someone, with wingers or on my own.

“First and foremost I just need to prove I’m worth my place out there on the pitch and, when I am, concentrate on doing as well as I can.”
