Huddersfield Town midfielder Dean Whitehead is due back in full training by the end of this week.

And head coach David Wagner says he could even come into contention for a place in squad for the FA Cup third-round replay at Reading next Tuesday, January 19.

Whitehead picked up a knee injury during the 2-0 win over Birmingham City at St Andrew’s.

The 33-year-old will miss an eighth match when Charlton Athletic visit the John Smith’s Stadium.

A close-season recruit from Middlesbrough, Whitehead made himself a key man in the course of his first 19 games for the club.

“To have Dean available again will be good,” said Wagner.

“Hopefully he could even be back by next week.”
