Huddersfield Town are awaiting news of a possible international call-up for winger Muzzy Carayol.

Raoul Savoy’s side kick-off their World Cup qualification bid with a double header against Namibia.

And the Swiss coach is scheduled top unveil his squad on Saturday.

On-loan Middlesbrough winger Carayol asked to be left out of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Cameroon last month.

But the 27-year-old Middlesbrough man is eyeing the Namibia games.

The first leg is in the Gambian coastal town of Bakau on Friday, October 9, with the return in Namibia on Tuesday 13.

“Last time I told the coach I needed to concentrate on my transfer from Middlesbrough to Huddersfield,” explained Carayol.

“The timing wasn’t right, and he understood that I needed to use the international break to get settled in new surroundings.

“But I have done that now and I have also spoken to the coach again and told him where I am at.

“We have got two important World Cup qualifiers and I would like to be involved, but I have to perform for Huddersfield to have a chance.”

A total of 53 teams from the Confederation of African Football are competing for five slots at the 2018 World Cup final in Russia. There are 13 first-round ties, including Gambia v Namibia, with the winners joining the 27 top-ranked sides in the second round.

The 20 second-round winners will then be divided into five groups of four teams, with the leaders earning qualification.

Gambia have lost their last three games, two against Senegal and 1-0 against Cameroon in Bakau.

Carayol was born in the Gambian capital of Banjul, moving to England to join Swindon Town’s youth system. He has also played for MK Dons, Torquay United, Lincoln City and Bristol Rovers, joining Middlesbrough in 2012.
