ROTHERHAM reached the semi-finals of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy last season, but Town haven’t won a tie in their last five attempts!

Since Morecambe were beaten 3-0 in the first round at the Galpharm in 2004-05, when David Mirfin, Junior Mendes, with a penalty, and Lee Fowler netted, there have been defeats by Blackpool, Boston, Doncaster, Grimsby and, last season, Darlington.

The last Town player to score in a tie was Michael Collins, in the 4-1 defeat at Grimsby at Blundell Park in September 2007.

Town’s last meeting with Rotherham was the season before that, 2006-07, when they did the double in League I.

The Millers were seen off 3-0 at the Galpharm, when Luke Beckett (penalty), Pawel Abbott and Gary Taylor-Fletcher scored.

And in the return at Millmoor, Beckett (2) and Collins clinched a 3-2 victory which edged the home side further towards relegation.

There have been two previous meetings in this competition, which began life as the Associate Members Cup in 1983, both at Millmoor.

Town lost 3-0 in the first round in 1989-90 and there was a 1-1 group-stage draw in 1993-94, when Town went on to reach the final, losing to Swansea on penalties at Wembley after a 1-1 extra-time stalemate.

It will take five rounds to reach this year’s final, which takes place at Wembley on Sunday, March 28.
