KEVIN KILBANE looked ahead to Town’s tasty lunchtime derby with Sheffield Wednesday at the Galpharm today and pledged: “We’ll earn the win we should have got on Saturday.”

The Republic of Ireland international and his teammates were disappointed at having to make do with a point after leading 2-0 in Saturday’s League I clash at Carlisle United.

Goals from Francois Zoko, in the 71st minute, and James Chester, in the 82nd, cancelled out efforts from Peter Clarke (24th) and Scott Arfield (63rd) at Brunton Park.

The result left Lee Clark’s side sixth in the table and highly frustrated ahead of their 12.15 showdown with fifth-placed Wednesday, who haven’t played since a 5-1 setback at Exeter on December 18.

Kilbane, who is looking forward to his home debut after signing on loan from Championship Hull City until the end of the season, admitted: “Not to have beaten Carlisle is a really big disappointment, but we’re up for Wednesday.

“Conceding two goals like that is a blow, and I got done for the second, because the lad climbed on me, and I couldn’t get off the ground.

“But in the short time I’ve been here, I’ve seen enough to know that this is a club on the up.”

Kilbane says his former Everton teammate Steve Watson, now Town’s development coach, was instrumental in his move.

“Steve told me all about Lee Clark and the ambition he has, and as soon as I spoke to the manager here, I wanted to get involved,” explained the 33-year-old, who has also played for Preston, West Brom, Sunderland and Wigan.

“I can certainly see this club going places, and while recent results haven’t been as we would have wanted, we’ll get back on track.

“Town have good management staff and good players. I could sense this will be a good move for me, and I want to contribute in any way I can.”
