IT’S been a top first season at Town for Gary Roberts.

Stan Ternent’s close-season capture from Ipswich won both the supporters’ and players’ player of the year awards.

The likeable Liverpudlian also landed the club’s golden boot award after finishing top scorer on 11.

In addition Roberts, 25, made the highest number of appearances, playing in 47 of a possible 50 games.

The three he missed were because of the suspension picked up after Town’s 4-1 defeat at Leicester on January 24, when he received a fifth yellow card of the campaign before being shown a straight red card for dissent.

Roberts was also sent off, for a foul, during Town’s 1-0 Johnstone’s Paint Trophy defeat at Darlington on November 7, but the red card was later rescinded on appeal.

The tricky former Crewe and Accrington player can also claim to have provided the mosts assists for goals (14) and the most shots on target (74).
