ALEX SMITHIES has been named in the England Under 19 squad for the European Championship elite-round qualifiers in Yorkshire later this month.

So too has Martin Kelly, the Liverpool defender loaned to Town this season.

Goalkeeper Smithies’ involvement depends on his recovery from the shoulder injury which kept him out of Town’s final match of the season at Leyton Orient.

England take on Bosnia at Doncaster on Wednesday, May 27, Slovakia at Bradford on Friday 29 and Scotland at Sheffield United on Monday, June 1.

If they win the round-robin group, they will go on to the eight-strong final stages in Ukraine in July.

While Smithies has been in the squad three times and capped once at Under19 level, Sunderland winger Jordan Henderson and Newcastle striker Nile Ranger only received their first call-ups for the game with Czech Republic in March, but have done enough to be named again.

Kelly, Kyle Walker and Andrew Tutte have been involved in the last two games.

Dean Parrett of Tottenham and Matthew James of Manchester United get first calls.
