HUDDERSFIELD Town's star striker Jordan Rhodes will today leave Town for Blackburn Rovers in a record-breaking £8m-plus deal.

I understand a fourth bid from the Championship rivals matched Town’s valuation of the 22-year-old Scotland international, who will sign an Ewood Park contract which will make him a multi-millionaire over the next few years.

My sources suggest Rhodes – who has three goals for club and country already this season – was very keen to talk with the Lancashire club once the scale of their interest was revealed last night.

He will discuss personal terms with Ewood boss Steve Kean, Blackburn directors and his own representatives and the deal is expected to be completed well before the transfer window closes tomorrow night.

While Town were reluctant to sell to a divisional rival, a guaranteed £8m – no down-payments with add-ons to follow – gives them leeway to find a replacement.

Reading’s Simon Church remains a possibility, while I understand Town are not prepared to go up to £1m for Dundee United’s £1.3m-rated Johnny Russell.

Sunderland’s Huddersfield-born Fraizer Campbell could be a target while DJ Campbell and Nathan Tyson are also on the radar.

One fascinating name emerging last night as a potential interest for Simon Grayson was Leicester’s former Leeds United striker Jermaine Beckford.

Town are keen to bring in another frontman before they travel to Ipswich on Saturday.
