STAN TERNENT is hoping for a home draw against Premier League opposition when Town go into the hat for the second round of the Carling Cup for the first time in three years tonight.

The manager saw new signing Gary Roberts score twice as Bradford were blasted 4-0 in last night’s first-round derby at the Galpharm.

Jon Worthington and Robbie Williams were also on target in front of 8,932 (3,229 from Bradford) with all four goals coming in the second half.

The top flight’s non-European qualifiers enter the competition at the second-round stage, with ties to be played in the week commencing August 25.

And Ternent said: “It would be great to get one of them here to reward our fans and raise some revenue.”

On last night’s display, he added: “You have to earn the right to play football and that took us some time because Bradford were pretty good in the first half.

“We had to step up our tempo and movement, and when you start to do that, chances come along.

“I thought we passed the ball quite well in the second half and scored some fantastic goals and it’s great to be in the next round.

“The clean sheet was important as well, and the players can only gain confidence from a display like that.”

Ternent made three changes from the starting side on duty for the 1-1 home draw with Stockport in Saturday’s League I opener.

Williams came in for David Unsworth at left-back, Worthington for Michael Collins in midfield and Luke Beckett for Andy Booth up front.

“David Unsworth played a full game on Saturday and was a little tired towards the end,” explained Ternent, who takes his team to Colchester on Saturday.

“Robbie Williams is a very good player who is getting near to the fitness level I require and I thought it was a good opportunity to give him a game. He played extremely well.”

There was also praise for former Bradford man Danny Cadamarteri, who was booed by the away fans.

“He’s lost 24lb since this time last year, and it shows,” said Ternent.

“They were calling him fat, but he proved he’s far from it.”
