TOMMY MILLER says he’ll be totally focused on helping Town to a first League I win of the season when he heads back to first club Hartlepool tonight.

Lee Clark’s side remain unbeaten in 2011-12, but are desperate for a three-point haul after Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Rochdale followed a 1-1 opening-day stalemate with Bury.

They twice led at Spotland, through Lee Novak (15th minute) and Danny Ward (69th) only to concede to Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro (43rd) and Ashley Grimes (89th).

“We threw the game away, really. It was in our hands, with three points there for the taking,” said central midfielder Miller, signed from Sheffield Wednesday this close-season.

“We controlled the majority of the game really well and had plenty of chances without them causing us any problems, but we conceded a late goal and we were all disappointed.

“Their first goal was lucky, because it hit one of our lads and rebounded right into the path of one of their strikers, who put it away well.

“Their second came from a mistake outside our penalty area which they took advantage of, and while it was a great finish, we have to work to cut those kind of goals out.

“We’ll lick our wounds and move on, because Hartlepool is another crucial game and they will provide us with a good test.”

While Town are 14th in the embryonic table, Mick Wadsworth’s Pool are a place above after also recording two draws, the latest 1-1 at home to Walsall.

Miller, 32, had four years at the club, making 162 appearances and scoring 44 goals, before moving to Ipswich in 2001. He has also played for Sunderland.

“I spent some good years at Hartlepool, who gave me my big break, and I owe the club a lot,” he added.

“I’ve only been back once as a player, last season with Sheffield Wednesday when I came on for the last 20 minutes and got a good reception.

“I am looking forward to going back again, but the only objective is to help get a win for Huddersfield Town.”

Lincolnshire’s Gary Sutton will be in charge as Town aim to set a new club record of 28 regular league games unbeaten.

Saturday’s Spotland stalemate meant they equalled the previous best set between January and October 1925.
