TOWN are desperately seeking opposition for Wednesday, July 28 after Hull City pulled the plug on the Galpharm friendly between the pair.

The fixture was to be a key part of Lee Clark’s build-up to the npower League I opener at Notts County three weeks today.

The Championship club have given no public reason for their decision, with their website stating simply that the game has been cancelled.

Town chief executive Nigel Clibbens said: “Having completed our schedule two months ago, it’s disappointing the game will not take place.

“A lot of hard work has gone on behind the scenes – the programme has been written and hospitality sold – and we don’t want it to go to waste.

“We are seeking another opponent, but given the short notice and the fact that most clubs will have their pre-season mapped out, there is no guarantee.”

Clibbens added: “All clubs know what is required in arranging a fixture of this nature and it is rare that they are cancelled.

“I am sure Hull City would not have done this unless it was absolutely necessary and unavoidable.”

Tickets for the game will be refunded, although they will be valid if another fixture can be fixed up.

Town, who go to Bury today and hosts Premier League Blackburn Rovers on Wednesday, have already lost one warm-up match.

Last Saturday’s game at Wakefield FC was postponed at the last minute because of the hard and patchy condition of the College Grove pitch.

Three games have taken place, with Town winning 5-0 at AFC Emley and 3-0 at Bradford Park Avenue before a side made up mainly of youngsters lost 1-0 at Frickley Athletic.

After Bury and Blackburn, Town’s other games are at Barnsley a week today, at Scunthorpe United on Saturday, July 31 and at Fleetwood Town on Wednesday, August 24.
