ANDY RITCHIE is singing in the rain!

While Town’s new boss can’t believe how bad the Storthes Hall weather has been this week, he is delighted with how the players have responded in training.

And he believes they are ahead of schedule already, even though there’s plenty of hard graft to come before the League I opener against Yeovil at the Galpharm on August 11.

“Everything has been fine so far apart from the weather – this rain is just ridiculous,” reported Ritchie today.

“It never stopped through yesterday’s session, ranging from just very heavy to a sort of monsoon, but the lads got on with it and did really well.

“We were, in fact, able to step things up a bit because we’ve already realised that they’ve all been doing a bit of fitness work over the summer and they are in pretty reasonable shape.

“All we need now is for the rain to go away and it will make it all the better for everyone.

“The strange thing is that you can normally be guaranteed the first couple of days of pre-season are steaming hot, but it’s the absolute opposite this time.

“It was genuinely cold through the worst of it yesterday with a sneaky breeze blowing, so it was great that everyone was mucking in and doing all the work.”

Chris Brandon trained for the first time yesterday and Ritchie explained: “I’ve heard nothing yet from Blackpool.

“I spoke to Chris and just told him to get on with things. He is here for now and a valuable part of our squad, simple as that.”
