CAN we mount a serious title challenge this season? JV, Huddersfield

Jacko says: THERE is still a long way to go, but I don't see any reason why not.

We have been up there all season along with a few others and we've had a very good start.

I think that when we play well, people have seen we are as good if not better than anything in our division.

The key to going up will be consistency of performance and steering clear of major injuries and suspensions.

If we do that we should have a good chance, because I've always felt we are as good as anybody in Coca-Cola League I.

The whole thing will come down to consistency, and if we play like we can we should have no problems.

Our only aim this season is to go up, whether it's as champions, in second place or through the play-offs.

We want to be playing Championship football this time next year and, hopefully, we will.

Everyone is putting in a lot of hard work, we've got a good start under our belts and, now, we have some big fixtures on the horizon before the run-in to the Christmas programme.

This is a big month for us and we are focused on doing well.

THERE has been a lot of debate about Chris Brandon: does he roam about too much and should he be more direct when he stays on the wing? What do you think? John, e-mail

Jacko says: FIRST of all, I don't think we've seen the best of Chris Brandon so far this season.

When he gets the ball he needs to be more positive - in terms of his final ball or in having more shots from around the box.

You can never fault Chris's effort and his phenomenal workrate, but at times his quality lets him down when it comes to taking a gamble at the end of a move.

Sometimes, too, he can lose a little discipline in terms of keeping the shape of the team, but he is also capable of causing havoc in opposing defences with his tricky running and his pace.

That's what I like about Chris and that's what we want to see more of - him being nice and positive around the opposition 18-yard area.

I do set high standards for my players and Chris hasn't really performed at the level I expect from him this season, but I'm sure it will come in the not too distant future.

With that in mind, we are not far off reaching agreement with Chris over a new contract.

WHO is out of contract at the end of this season? Chris, e-mail

Jacko says: THERE are 11 players on the books who are out of contract next summer.

As I've already said, Chris Brandon is one of them who we are close to reaching agreement with.

Of the other 10, three of them are already out on loan - Junior Mendes to Northampton, Lee Fowler to Scarborough and Anthony Lloyd to Torquay.

The other seven are Andy Booth, Phil Senior, Aaron Hardy, John McCombe, Matthew Young, Tony Carss and Danny Schofield.

I THOUGHT your decision to loan out Anthony Lloyd was fair, but would you take him back to make him into a better player if Torquay don't want him? Joanne, e-mail

Jacko says: EVERYTHING depends on how he does.

If Torquay offer Lloydy a contract then I wouldn't stand in his way.

He did ever so well with us when he first broke into the team and played his part of us winning promotion, but I don't feel he has stepped up to this level as well as some of the others.

That doesn't mean he isn't a good player who can improve, because he can, and he's a terrific lad with a great attitude.

I told him right at the start of the season, though, that if anyone came in for him I wouldn't stand in his way and, if he does go to Torquay, then our best wishes and hopes will go with him.

I spoke to Leroy Rosenior about Lloydy only yesterday and he said he'd done well when he went on against Harrogate in the Cup.

Lloydy will be back here training with us on Monday because Torquay are travelling up for the replay of that tie.

And I will be sending someone over to Wetherby Road to watch that game on Tuesday just to see how Lloydy does.

From what Leroy said, he was pleased with how he had done.

Still, I knew Lloydy wouldn't let him down.

IT'S great our FA Cup-tie is live on TV, but do you think the competition is still well thought of in the game and deserves it's place on the calendar? Jenny, Meltham

Jacko says: THE FA Cup is still the most exciting knockout competition in the world.

Every player looks forward to playing in the FA Cup and it doesn't matter whether you play at Ossett Town or Chelsea, it's the same.

The FA Cup is still very well thought of in the game. Apart from when Man Utd dropped out that one season, everyone values it highly.

The fans always turn up to support and they always hope for a big draw in the third round.

Hopefully we will be able to deliver a third-round place for our fans this season - and you never know what plum fixture might come out in the draw!

BEARING in mind our FA Cup clash is now on the Sunday, have you considered getting the MK Dons game moved back from the following Tuesday? Rich, Moldgreen

Jacko says: IT would have been great to get it moved back to the Wednesday and we did make a call to MK Dons about it.

But they said they weren't able to switch it because there is another event at the stadium and, also, the police have other commitments.

MK Dons are fighting for their lives, too, and if I were in their position I wouldn't want to switch the game either - so I can understand where they are coming from on this one.

It's something we'll just have to live with.

WHAT is happening with John McAliskey and what are his chances of getting back in our first team? JV, Huddersfield

Jacko says: IT IS entirely up to John McAliskey what happens in his career, both short term and long term.

He goes in for a double hernia operation on Tuesday, which is the first thing on his agenda.

Then he's got to get himself back to fitness and back to the sort of form he showed when he burst on the scene a couple of seasons ago.

His goalscoring record in the first team is excellent and it's a shame he got injured when he went down for his loan spell at Torquay, because I think that would have done him a lot of good.

I still have every faith in Macca that he can break through to our first team, though, because he's got all the talent and all the attributes necessary to do that.

But it doesn't matter how much you talk to him and how much he listens, it's all down to Macca and whether he takes in all on board.

He has to go out on the pitch and do the business, simple as that.

Macca could be playing a really good standard of football at this club or another in the next couple of years.

Alternatively, he could be playing for Emley. It's up to him.

I can't be any more honest with him or in answering this question.
