FORMER Town manager Peter Jackson is an overwhelming fans' favourite to take the manager's job at Chester.

The League II club have parted company with Mark Wright and fans at the Deva Stadium want Jacko in charge for 2007-08.

Jackson, who left Town by mutual consent in March, played more than 100 games for Chester after finishing his Leeds Road contract as a player in 1994.

In a poll of fans, 81% voted for Jackson to return to the club, with 12% favouring former Wrexham boss Denis Smith, who still lives in the area.

Others mentioned in connection with the post include Ian Atkins and Stan Ternent.

Jackson was given a warm reception when he took Town to Chester for a pre-season friendly last summer (it finished goalless).

Bournemouth manager Kevin Bond is set to extend his stay.

Bond signed a deal until the end of the season when he took charge in October.

Club owners Jeff Mostyn and Steve Sly want him to remain.

Mostyn said: "Contract extensions will commence as a priority."
