PETER JACKSON today spoke of his delight that Town will have more than 3,000 fans backing their promotion bid at York this Sunday (3.00).

Sales have been busy for the all-ticket clash and Town have received a final additional allocation of 275 terrace tickets from the Bootham Crescent club.

It means Town have been supplied with a maximum allocation of 3,405 tickets and they fully expected to top the 3,000 sales mark by close of business today - making it one of the biggest followings for the club in recent years.

"It's absolutely brilliant support and I can't tell you how much it is appreciated by the players," said Jackson, whose side are looking to avenge their only McAlpine defeat of the season and maintain a strong showing in the top seven of the Division III table.

"Our support away from home has been magnificent all season and we just hope we can continue to improve our record for them in the second half of the campaign.

"I'm told we took 2,346 down to the match at Doncaster, which was our best so far, but this weekend will see a much bigger turnout and that will really spur the lads on."

Town's best League following since the Millennium came in November 2001, when 3,390 travelled to watch the 1-1 draw at Oldham Athletic.

Apart from the Autoglass Trophy and play-off finals at Wembley, the biggest away support of the last decade came when 5,000 fans watched the Coca Cola Cup loss at Middlesbrough in October 1996.

"I think the fans are warming to a team of young lads who they know are working hard, we are third in the form table and we are playing entertaining football at the moment," added Jackson.

"Not only have we won five on the trot, but the statistics show we have scored more goals from corners than anyone else in the division and we've also hit the woodwork more than anyone else.

"That shows we are an attack minded side and, as long as we defend properly, we can go to York with every confidence of keeping our run going.

"We certainly don't want York to complete a double over us, and I know the players are already looking forward to the game."

Town have announced that their next home match, against Darlington on Saturday, February 7, will be a Quid a Kid fixture.

Admission for Under 16s on that day will be by payment at the turnstiles for all sections of the stadium.

The scheme proved a success when Town last operated it for the Oxford match before Christmas.

There were 304 extra juniors and a total of 926 more fans compared with the previous match against Cheltenham, and it netted Town more than £2,700 in additional revenue.

There were 1,139 juniors at last Saturday's match against Boston and Jackson added: "We want to attract as many younger fans as possible, and the Quid a Kid scheme is a great way for them to sample the atmosphere for just a fraction of their pocket money."

Seat tickets for the trip to Torquay on Saturday, February 14, went on sale to season-ticket holders only today.

Town have 196 priced £12 for adults, £9 seniors and students and £5 for Under 16s. Any remaining tickets will go on general sale on Friday, January 30.

It will be pay at the turnstiles for the Plainmoor terrace on the day when prices are £11 adults, £8 seniors and students and £5 Under 16s.

Tickets for Bristol Rovers (Jan 31) are £2 cheaper if bought in advance and they are also on sale from the McAlpine offices.
