Jacob Butterfield has revealed he is being made to feel at home by Huddersfield Town after completing his drawn-out switch from Middlesbrough in a deal which sees Adam Clayton move in the opposite direction for an undisclosed seven-figure fee, believed to be £1.5m rising to £2m.

Butterfield had to remain patient while the two clubs finalised the finer details of the deal but is now raring to go after discussions with Town officials convinced the midfielder his future was best served at the John Smith's Stadium.

And after unsuccessful spells at Norwich City and Boro, the 24-year-old is keen to make it third time lucky at Town, where he admits he is feeling wanted for the first time since his time at first club Barnsley.

“I’ve spoken with everyone at the Club, including the Chairman a few times, and they’ve sold the Club to me," the midfielder told the club website.

"I’ve never had a Chairman call me before to be honest, so for that to happen and for him to tell me how much I’m wanted here was brilliant for me.

"The people at the Club were impressive in their aspirations for Huddersfield Town.

“Since I left Barnsley I’ve not felt like I’ve been really appreciated at a Club, but I feel like that already here.

"It’s great for any player to have that vote of confidence and to feel valued.

"I need to go and earn that confidence now by doing my talking on the pitch.

“I’ve only just turned 24 years old and I’ve played 150 Championship games, so I want to show how big a player I can be in this division.

"I’ve signed a four year deal here because I want to settle down and be a big part of things going forward.”

Having burst onto the scene as a prodigious youngster with the Tykes, Butterfield has struggled to live up to his clear potential, but he will be expected to replace the outgoing Clayton's goalscoring and creative output in the Town engine room.

Butterfield is convinced, though, that his new club have the foundations in place for him to achieve personal and collective success.

“Huddersfield Town is doing everything right and is heading in the right direction; everyone around the place is really positive," he added.

"There is such a good setup at the training ground - there is real potential at this Club.

“Most importantly for me, the Club wants to play good, exciting football in the right way – that really interested me.

"That philosophy and style comes from the Chairman down to every member of staff, so I’m sure they want the next manager to come in and play in that fashion.

“I want to play in that way; passing the ball around on the floor; hopefully we can entertain the fans.

"I want to win – I’ve come here to be successful. I think we’ll have a successful year.

“It’s all about consistency and intensity; if you work hard, you will get your rewards. It’s all well and good playing a good style of football, but you have to win games along with it. Let’s hope we can find that consistency.”
