RYAN JAGGER struck a hat trick to fire Kirkburton into the fourth round of the Sheffield Junior Challenge Cup in a 3-0 victory against Scholes.

The West Riding County Amateur League Division I side were always in control of this all-Huddersfield tie and Chris Parker signalled the hosts' intentions when he headed just wide from an accurate Damian Ives cross early on.

Steve Chandler volleyed a left foot shot just wide with Scholes keeper Nathan Hall rooted to his line.

Scholes, ninth in the District League Division II, won their first corner of the match on 15 minutes but Ashley Pamment shot wide.

Keeper Hall dived bravely to quash a Parker threat on 20 minutes and, soon after, he dealt comfortably with Lee Bradley's 20-yard strike.

Burton went close again on 35 minutes when Chandler delivered the ball into the area and Rob Barnes shot towards the top corner, but a defender valiantly headed off the line before Jagger shot high and wide.

Kirkburton began the second half determined to turn their chances into goals and they finally broke through the tenacious Scholes defence on 62 minutes.

Chandler launched a corner into the danger zone and man-of-the-match Jagger rose like a salmon to head the first of his three-goal tally.

Jagger added the second from another corner when he sneaked in at the far post to slot home from close range.

And the final goal came on 75 minutes when Jagger flicked on a corner, which he claimed was over the line before a defender put the ball into his own net.

Burton could have had two or three more goals in the closing 10 minutes but Wood missed with a header and the keeper made a few good saves.

Dave Walsh in the Burton goal had little to do until the 85th minute when he pulled off a great save to deny Pamment a consolation after he had previously headed against the bar.

Burton substitute Jez Elson almost made it 4-0 in the final minute when he slid in for a John Allison cross, but he put the ball wide.
