LEE CLARK today welcomed Jamie McCombe back to Town saying the centre-back is now in the best of form.

The 28-year-old has been recalled from a two-month loan at Preston and is available to replace suspended skipper Peter Clarke against Chesterfield.

Antony Kay and Tom Clarke would be other options, but Clark has been impressed with what he’s seen of McCombe in his Deepdale spell.

He said: “Obviously Peter Clarke is suspended, but there is more to recalling Jamie than that.

“I've been watching Jamie closely and during his time at Preston, as part of a good set-up, and they have conceded only two goals in five games.

“When Jamie gets into his rhythm he is a top centre-back and that is what has happened at Preston.

“The move has benefited everyone – Preston became tighter as a defensive unit, it certainly benefited Jamie and it will benefit us now he is back here, so it was a no brainer really.”

Clark added: “Unfortunately after his red card against Leyton Orient he wasn’t in the team and we are in a position where we need everyone flying every single game.

“This was always the plan. Jamie going to Preston was never going to be for the long-term or permanently. The loan was to benefit everyone – most importantly Huddersfield Town.”
