DALTON Dynamoes have made tremendous progress since being founded in 1998.
And they have even crossed paths with former England, Newcastle, Spurs and Lazio legend Paul Gascoigne!
Gazza was the special guest at the end of last season when the Dynamoes’ Under 15 side took part in the R&T Tours Youth Football Tournament in Southport.
While they didn’t win on this occasion, the players from Dalton received their medals from the former midfield ace, (pictured right) who is known throughout world football.
The presentation has even been featured on YouTube and can also be seen on the club’s own website as the main first-page feature.
While the Gazza connection is great, the club have had many successes over the last decade and have fully justified the faith of founder Gary Hartley.
He was kicking a ball about with his two young sons in the summer of 1997 when more and more people started joining in.
Eventually, he thought it would be a great idea to form a junior club in the area, helping youngsters benefit from playing football and giving them a strong local identity.
He organised a first training session to which 49 young players turned up and, thefollowing season, he was able to enter two teams in the Junior Sunday League, which was then sponsored by Gelpack.
Now, after developing quickly and retaining their strong community links, Dalton Dynamoes have 14 teams covering the age groups from six years to 17-year-olds.
It’s a tremendous success story – and it all started with a simple kick-about!
