WESTEND continue to flourish in the RCD Huddersfield Junior Sunday League.

Since their foundation in 1991, the Salendine Nook-based club have always been forward thinking.

And they are now proudly established as an FA Charter Standard Development Club.

This season, for the first time, they have been able to enter three teams at Under 11 level – and they are all doing nicely.

The Lions (or A team) play in Division II of the Under 11s, the Tigers (B team) are in Division IVA and the third team, the Pumas, are in Division IVB.

It was a big thrill for the club and everyone involved when all three of those teams kicked-off this season with victories – the Lions winning 6-1, the Tigers 5-4 and the Pumas 3-1.

The club, who have a floodlit all-weather training pitch, welcome players of all abilities and make sure everyone is involved in the action. If enough players are registered at an age group, they enter Lions and Tigers teams in the League.

Tigers are entered to give every child, regardless of ability, a chance to play for the club in the league competition.

Team managers of the Tigers must follow the Westend philosophy when selecting their teams each week.

In the event of a Tigers team having more than 14 players available, the manager must ensure the players take it in turn to drop out.

This ensures every child is given an equal opportunity to play.

Westend’s Mini section run teams at every year from Under 6 up to Under 10, and they also have Tots sessions for Under 5s at Westend Soccer Centre at Huddersfield New College. These are on Saturday mornings from 9.15 to 10.15 and on Tuesday nights for an hour from 6pm.

New players are always made welcome, regardless of ability, and the sessions are always run in a friendly environment and atmosphere with enjoyment being the club’s No1 priority for youngsters taking part.
