NORRISTHORPE survived a second-half onslaught to win The Kirkwood Hospice Cup with a 1-0 victory over Clifton Rangers.

Eddie Holmes had given Norristhorpe a first-half lead in the RCD Under 12 showpiece, while a combination of luck and great goalkeeping from Elliot Campbell in the second-half ensured Norristhorpe would grab victory.

After an even start to the game, Norristhorpe began to show why they currently sit top of the Under 12 Division I.

Holmes and Elliot Rayne were looking dangerous to the Rangers back line, and the Norristhorpe No10 almost gave his side the lead when a defensive error led to a chance, but the ball was over-run.

Holmes made no mistake when he was given a second opportunity, however.

As the Clifton defence failed to clear a corner, the forward pounced to give Norristhorpe the lead their spell of dominance deserved.

Rangers started the second half brightly, and they were almost level immediately as a 35-yard free-kick from Harry Scott Baxter was parried away for a corner.

A further long-range effort from Harrison Glew, and a brace of chances for William Peterkin were denied by the inspired Campbell in the Norristhorpe goal.

Norristhorpe held on to the final whistle, as winning manager Simon Walker declared himself proud of his victorious side.
