HALIFAX IRISH recorded a deserved 5-0 victory over YMCA Under 14s to lift the League Cup.

A dominant performance sealed the memorable victory for the Division I side, as they scored four second-half goals to complete the rout.

A penalty mid-way through the second half took the wind out of a brave YMCA side, as Halifax Irish controlled the latter stages of the game.

Division IIA side YMCA battled valiantly in the first-half, but in the end the physical and technical superiority of Irish shone through.

After losing in the final last year, Halifax were in no mood to repeat the disappointment, and took the lead through Rhys Thomas in the first half.

Both sides had chances in an action-packed first-half, but Matt Bridges and Daniel Turnbull, in the Halifax and YMCA goals respectively, kept the scores at a minimum with several fine stops.

Irish moved up a gear in the second period, putting the YMCA goalmouth under constant pressure through their direct play.

A spot-kick from Mark Everingham, further strikes from Adam Whitaker and Euan Davies, and a second for Thomas rounded off the victory.
