IT was a big day for cup games in the RCD League.

While most teams were playing in the first round of the League Cup, a number were also playing their postponed County Cup games from the previous week.

Upperthong Under 16s stay on course in three competitions thanks to a solid 9-2 win at Brimwood United in the Sheffield County FA Cup.

Hat tricks from William Wilson and Oliver Tiplady, together with one each for Max Kaye, Max Berry and Tom Halton ensured the Holme Valley side’s dreams of league, league cup and county cup success remain a realistic target

Meltham, who have enjoyed a good start to their Under 17 league campaign, secured a place in the second round of the RCD League Cup with a solid 5-0 win over Rastrick.

The Brighouse side were unable to find a reply as Sam Sykes, Luke O’Brien, Tom Kelly, Sam Farnell and Adam Reid sealed the win for Meltham.

Third Division Hepworth United put up a brave fight against unbeaten Dalton Dynamoes in their Under 15 cup clash, but the First Division league leaders were in no mood for a cup upset and goals from Joe Dunstan (4), Joseph McKevitt (2) and Carl David sealed a 7-1 win and ensured the Dynamoes retain their unbeaten record.

St John Fisher Under 15s have had a mixed start to their season so far but the Dewsbury side earned their place in the second round thanks to a 4-0 win at fellow Second Division neighbours Heckmondwike.

Niall Kelly, Matthew Thompson, Thomas Ramsden and an own goal were enough to secure the victory.

Goals from Toby Aspindle and Timothy Charlton (2) almost caused the upset of the day when Fourth Division Norristhorpe met Salendine Nook-based Collegians in the Under 15 first round, but a Jordan Townend hat trick and one from Joshua Orchard spared the First Division side’s blushes as they finished 4-3 victors.

Rastrick Under 15s enjoyed a good day as both the A and B sides secured wins.

Howden Clough, last year’s league champions and cup runners-up, were the visitors at Rastrick’s Carr Green home, but Clough were unable to improve on a single strike from Fergus Barron as Rastrick went on to secure a 3-1 win with goals from Tom Healey (2) and Luke Ellis-Craven.

Rastrick’s B team have taken maximum points from their opening seven league games as they strive for the Fourth Division title, and a meeting with fellow Division Four side Glen Juniors in the first round of the cup gave them an eighth win from eight.

Joseph Baldwin and Scott Johnson grabbed three goals apiece, while Andrew Wojcichowski scored twice as Rastrick completed a comfortable 8-2 win.

In the County Cups, a second-round win over Hartshead put First Division Collegians into the last 32 of the West Riding County FA Under 14 Trophy.

Aiden Fisher (2), Suleman Rafiq and Joseph Wimpenny were on target as Collegians completed a 4-1 victory.

And in the Under 12 competition, goals from Bradley Hall (3), Joshua Hollings (2), Kyle Tetley, Alex Tattersley and Kyle Hey were enough to send league leaders YMCA into round three of the West Riding County Shield.
