A PERFECT day for football was the verdict on the first day of the new season as Division II newcomers, 3D Dynamoes, arrived at West Mills Playing Fields, Mirfield, for their Under 15 meeting with Battyeford.

Sadly for promoted Dynamoes, their first encounter in Division II was against relegated Battyeford who are clearly determined to try to bounce straight back to the top division and scored a 4-0 win.

Although the Dynamoes gave a good account of themselves, they struggled to create many chances on goal.

Meanwhile Battyeford’s highly-skilful Louis Bailey proved more than a handful for the visitors’ defence.

Jack Baldwin opened the scoring after 10 minutes and two further goals from Oliver Myzack left the Dynamoes with a major half-time headache and, although the visitors worked hard to get back into the game, they were unable to find the net.

Jack Edmonds put the result beyond doubt with a fourth Battyeford goal in the second half.

Marsden’s Under 17s got their season off to a flying start with a fine 2-0 win at Glen Juniors.

The South Leeds side were unable to find a reply as goals from Patterson and Dolan gave Marsden a three-point start in their Division II campaign.

In Division I of the Under 17s, Clifton were the winners in their local derby against arch rivals Brighouse.

Addy and Hampton were on target for Brighouse but a goal each for Bempton, Cooke and Riley ensured the points and local pride for Clifton.

Howden Clough Under 16s have always been a tough side to beat since they first played at Under 11, and a first-day win over last year’s First Division runners-up suggests they will be no pushover this season.

Two goals from Vickers and one from Keough were enough for a 3-1 win at Batley.

Under 15 First Division newcomers Collegians grabbed a morale-boosting win over fellow promotion rivals Barugh.

Two goals each for Tuff and Bedford were enough to secure the three points for Collegians.

Britannia’s Under 13 title winners have changed their identity, but the move to become Brighouse Town has not changed their ability.

Wensley, Byrnes and Gresham were on target as Brighouse ran out 3-1 winners at Elland-based HAFC.

But, in the same division, last year’s third-placed Collegians will be one team hoping to topple Brighouse this season following a confident start against Deighton, who finished runners-up.

Goals from Fisher and Rafiq gave Collegians a 2-0 victory.
