TOWN Ladies continued their good recent form with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over previously unbeaten Sheffield Ladies.
Huddersfield had the benefit of a strong wind in the first half but failed to create much at all, while Sheffield did their best to pass the ball along the ground and came closest to scoring when a headed 30th-minute corner crashed back off Town’s bar.
In the second half and against the wind, Town came out stronger and Katie Barnes put them ahead on 48 minutes when she broke away to finish superbly.
Sheffield then began to use the wind to their advantage, and player of the match Laura Carter pulled off a number of good saves to keep Town ahead.
The midfield and defence worked hard to keep Sheffield at bay and had to soak up almost constant pressure.
With just two minutes remaining Sheffield won a corner, and only a defensive clearance over her own bar off Kate Mallin’s right thigh saved the day for Town.
The first team are without a game at the weekend, while the Reserves are at home (Grange Moor) to Oulton on Saturday (2.00).
