DAWN KELLETT was Town Ladies’ player-of-the-match in a 3-1 victory against Blyth Spartans.

Town controlled the game from start to finish with slick passing on Lightcliffe’s 3G pitch.

Rachel Petyt fired Town ahead on eight minutes after a fine solo effort and on the half hour they went 2-0 up when a Kate Mallin corner was headed home by Jade Robshaw.

In the second half Town wasted a number of clear chances and were unlucky on 70 minutes when a Becky Shaw headed goal was disallowed by the referee who thought the ball had hit her shoulder.

Then, five minutes later, Jade North upended a Blyth player in the penalty box and from the spot kick Blyth were right back in the game.

Kellett made the game safe with two minutes remaining when she lobbed the advancing goalkeeper from the edge of the box.

Town’s final game of the season is on Sunday at home (Lightcliffe & Hipperholme High School) against Team Northumbria (2.00).
