RYAN JAGGER struck twice as West Riding County Amateur League side Kirkburton progressed to the third round of Sheffield and Hallamshire County FA’s Challenge Cup.

They were at home to District League Division I outfit Scholes and won 4-0 at Hallas Road.

Kirkburton made changes due to injuries and with no recognised strikers manager Howard Cartledge played Jagger and Oliver Davidson up front.

The move paid dividends as on 21 minutes five minutes Kirkburton were in front with a cross from Tim Sykes being headed in by Jagger.

Scholes best chance of the first half came on the half hour when a long range effort from Josh Brooke went just over the bar.

Kirkburton were on top in the second half and they went two up when Jimmy Meadows put the ball to the back post where Damian Sykes fired a left foot shot straight into the top corner.

Jagger should have scored his second when put through by a great ball from Nick Reid, but made amends shortly afterwards lobbing Nathan Hall in the Scholes goal to make it three.

Jagger had a powerful shot saved by Hall to deny him his hat trick in the 65th minute, but Kirkburton kept on attacking and in the 75th minute a ball was fired into the visitors’ six yard area and a Scholes defender headed into his own net.

Kirkburton pushed for more and Sykes fired in a fierce 20 yard shot which hit the bar, before Henry Philpot’s header went straight to keeper Hall and Dan Morgan put a shot just wide.

Kirkburton play in the third round on Saturday, December 8.
