PROMOTED Meltham have endured a confidence-shattering start to the new Under 15 Division III campaign.

A 9-0 defeat against Drighlington on the opening week was followed on Sunday by a similar crushing defeat at Kirkburton, and the team will have to find some confidence if they are to compete in this division.

Meltham seemed to be competing on level terms in the opening encounters but once Ben Hewitt opened the scoring for Kirkburton after 15 minutes it was virtually one-way traffic.

And four goals for Eddie Knight, a hat trick for Ben Hewitt and one each for Cainan Wright, James Smith and Dom Francis did the damage .

Jordan Gray scored Meltham’s consolation in the second half.

Elsewhere in the Under 15s another newly promoted team are off to a flying start.

Two wins from two games puts Honley in a good position in Division II where a goal apiece for James Clapham and Jacob Massey gave Honley a solid away win at Wyke Wanderers, who had drawn their opener.

Brighouse, who finished third in the top-flight last term, are determined to do better this time and goals from Sam Neal (2), Jason Taylor, Kieron Baker, Matthew Kilby and Mian Johnson gave them a comfortable 6-2 win over Thornhill to add to their 7-2 win over Warley Rangers the previous week.

In Division IV it was a hat trick for David Naylor as Westend proved too strong for Upperthong.

A couple for David Wimpenny and one for Jack Smith finished off a comfortable 6-1 away win to add to their opening day victory over Savile Town last week.
