TOWN Ladies are within six points of North-East Regional Women’s League Premier Division leaders Barnsley after a 7-1 win over Guiseley.

The victory came as the South Yorkshire side went down 4-1 at Sheffield United Community Ladies.

And third-placed Town can give themselves another boost when they host second-placed Hessle at Hipperholme and Lightcliffe Sports College on Sunday (1.30).

Having lost twice to Guiseley last season, Town were eager for revenge and started the game with conviction, going ahead after five minutes when a corner was turned home by Emma Poole.

Guiseley levelled through Sarah Dickens three minutes later.

But Town were back in front when Sarah Griffiths headed home from a corner after 17 minutes.

Emily Heckler scored the first of her four goals, again with a header from a corner, in the 27th minute and shot home in the 38th.

Heckler then crossed for Kate Mallin to make it 5-1 at the break.

The former Doncaster Rovers Belles player nodded home from close range in the 66th minute then fired home left footed late on.

Midfielder Sarah Griffiths was voted player of the match.

The Under 15s are fifth in the West Riding Girls League First Division after a 3-0 home defeat by Wigton Moor United.

It was the team’s first game since November, and conditions at Grange Moor were far from ideal.

Town played some nice controlled possession football, but were unable to turn it into goals.

Wigton broke the deadlock just before half-time and despite Town pressure, added two more in the second half.

Midfielder Georgia Hamilton was player of the match.

Town don’t have a game this weekend.

The Under 17s, who lead their league by six points from Bolton Woods, have a derby against Lepton Highlanders, who are third, on Sunday (10.30).

While Town were without a game at the weekend, Lepton were 7-1 home winners over Howden Clough.

Town’s Under 13 team, in their debut season in the Sheffield and Hallamshire League, head for Doncaster Rovers Belles on Saturday (10.30).
