TOWN Ladies suffered a 3-0 defeat in their North-East Regional Women’s League game at Sheffield United Community Ladies.

The visitors were on the back foot for the bulk of the first half, with Chez Mawhood scoring twice for the Blades.

Town were more involved after the break, but struggled to make any real inroads, and Mawhood completed her hat trick in the 88th minute.

Right-back Kelsey Byrne was the top player for Town, who face St Francis 2000 of Hartlepool at Hipperholme and Lightcliffe Sports College on Sunday (1.30).

The Under 17s kicked off their campaign with a 5-0 win over Tingley Athletic. Scorers were Shauna Messenger (2), Charlotte Thomas, Megan Preston and Rebecca Blaeford.

Wortley, who won 3-2 at Howden Clough, is the destination for another West Riding Girls League clash on Sunday (10.30).

In the Under 15 section, Town produced some controlled football to run out 3-1 home winners over Oakworth.

The visitors went ahead against the run of play with a 30th-minute penalty, but Town’s pressure finally paid off with three goals in 10 minutes.

Lucy Ellis equalised with a shot from 20 yards and Rebecca Moore then collected a cross from player of the match Georgia Cooke to control and fire home.

The final goal came when Melissa Sutcliffe beat the keeper from close range after a neat one-two with Moore. Georgia Cooke was player of the match for her all round work and ability to run at the Oakworth defence.

The side head for South Leeds City on Saturday (10.30).

The Under 13s lost 6-2 in their Sheffield and Hallamshire League clash with Hoyland Town but produced a much improved performance in only their second full-sized game.

Town went ahead on 11 minutes when Amy Thompson pounced on a loose ball in the area, but Hoyland levelled on 24 minutes.

The defence was coping well, with Niamh O’Dea, Laura Neimantis and player of the match Annabelle Pullan working hard, and Katie Lockwood’s goal just before half-time restored the lead.

But Hoyland’s strength showed in the second half, when Town used their substitutes and lost some shape.

There is no Under 13s game this weekend.
