TOWN Ladies continued their flying start to the season with a 7-4 victory over Team Northumbria.
This was their ninth successive North-East Women's League win.
But it was a far from easy victory against a quick and muscular Northumbria side.
The home team started brightly and it took visitors Town a while to gain control of the midfield.
In the 15th minute, Town laid siege to the home goal, but despite six corners, could not find the net.
But on 18 minutes they went one up when a quick break down the left resulted in a good finish from captain Claire Hesselthwaite.
Two minutes later Rachel Petyt's cross was finished well by Becky Catling.
Northumbria's spirit was not broken and they pressurised Town into errors, resulting in goals after 35 and 40 minutes.
In the final few minutes of the half, Jade Robshaw finished well after a strong run from Hesselthwaite and then Mel Sherwood's shot came back off the crossbar for Catling to get her second.
Northumbria pulled one back right on half-time, then caught Town cold with a leveller at the start of the second period.
But the response was strong, with further goals from Kate Mallin, Catling and Robshaw, from Town's 25th corner of the game, sealing the points.
Town'sp layer-of-the-match was defender Jade North.
Town's next game is against Leeds Development at beck Lane on Sunday.
The Under 16s slumped 6-0 against Sheffield Wednesday, while the Under 14s lost 5-1 to Sheffield United, Aleathia Smith getting the goal.
