JIM GOODWIN is ready to put up the shutters against his old Stockport teammate Rickie Lambert tomorrow.
The Town man signed from Scunthorpe as a midfielder is set for his fifth successive league start at right-back.
It’s a challenge he’s enjoying, and he’s also looking forward to pitting his wits against Bristol Rovers’ nine-goal top scorer.
“Rickie’s a strong lad with a real physical presence, and he’s not afraid to have a shot at goal,” said the 26-year-old Irishman.
“We got on well together and Stockport, and he’s done well at both Rochdale and Bristol since, and he’s a player we’ll need to be wary of.
“But I think our two centre-backs Andy Butler and Nathan Clarke have been in good form of late, and as always, we’re looking for a clean sheet.”
Of his own situation, Goodwin explained: “I played at right-back with Celtic, and I’m enjoying learning the role again.
“Like most players, if I’m in the side, I’m happy.”
