DISGRACEFUL scenes by Welfare Ground visitors South Normanton soured a superb 3-0 Northern Counties East League Division I win by AFC Emley.

Ray Dennis and Nicky Bramald's side had carved out a 3-0 lead with goals from Adam Day (45 minutes) Wayne James (84) and an Allan Laud penalty three minutes from time, before discipline began to unravel.

Normanton's Simon Johnson was shown a straight red card for a late two-footed challenge on scorer Laud and then players from both sides got involved in a melee which spilled into both dug-outs and spectator areas.

The referee took advice from his assistants and booked both Whalin and Emley's Joe Pinnock, who both had to walk after having been previously booked.

The match was played in very windy conditions which blew straight down the ground and was in the visitors' favour in the first half.

But Emley had a goal advantage when Day scored just before the break.

Roles were reversed in the second period with Emley having all the play and two late goals moved them up to 12th in the 17-team division ahead of Saturday's match at Dinnington Town (3.00).

* Former Emley boss Gerry Quinn took charge of his first game at NCEL Premier Division side Liversedge and saw his 12th-placed new club earn a 3-3 draw at fifth-placed Garforth Town.

On target for the Heavy Woollen side were Joe Hewitt (53 and 56 minutes) and Ryan Buckley (68 minutes).
