COLCHESTER United bowed out of the League I play-off race after being held 1-1 at home to Tranmere Rovers and manager Aidy Boothroyd admitted: “We didn’t do enough.”

The Essex side were desperate for victory to keep their bid alive and took a fourth-minute lead through Anthony Wordsworth.

But Ian Thomas-Moore equalised for the relegation- threatened visitors soon after and ex-Town player Boothroyd said: “There’s no getting away from it, we got what we deserved.

“We didn’t put enough balls into the box and, having got ahead, we got scored on straight away.

“It’s important we put in good performances at Huddersfield and then against Leyton Orient at home so that the fans come back for next season.”

Fifth-placed Charlton are just a point above Town after a 1-1 draw at Exeter, who still aren’t free from danger.

Kyel's Reid’s 72nd-minute strike cancelled out an opener from Exeter’s George Friend on the hour.

Swindon are two places and the same number of points better off than Lee Clark’s side after their 2-2 draw at third-bottom Wycombe, where Billy Paynter and Alan Sheehan each scored equalisers for the Wiltshire side.

Second-placed Leeds and Millwall, in third, remain a point apart after each won.

Luciano Becchio, Max Gradel and Jermaine Beckford with two, one of them a penalty, sealed Leeds’ 4-1 win over MK, who had three men sent off.

Paul Robinson and Steve Morison, with a penalty, clinched Millwall’s 2-1 home win over Leyton Orient.

Norwich ensured the League I title by beating Gillingham 2-0 at Carrow Road.
