The 21-year-old midfielder has taken the place of injured skipper Jon Worthington and is focused on helping Town bring down the Galpharm curtain in style.

Town's tough-tackling Welshman is also determined to perform well himself before starting the final year of a current club contract which he would be happy to extend.

"We have had a fantastic run and, whatever happens between now and the end of the season, the sky's the limit for this club with the young lads we've got at the moment," said Fowler, who was seeking a move for family reasons earlier in the season.

"I have always wanted to be a part of it here because the management have been great, my family's situation has picked up and I'm now in the team, which is what I've always wanted.

"I have got a year left on my contract and I'm not going to rest on my laurels.

"I want to be sitting down with the gaffer at Christmas and talking about staying longer, but I know it's up to me and the way I play.

"That's why I'm keen to finish the season well against Swindon and Wrexham, carry on working hard in training and matches and carry it forward into next season."

Fowler's starts against Colchester and Brentford are his first since January and his total will rise only to 10 for the season against Andy King's side tomorrow - which includes former Town players Steve Jenkins and Jerel Ifil, while ex-jockey Willie Carson is the club's chairman.

"I'm really looking forward to tomorrow because there will be a big Town contingent down with it being our last home game and, hopefully, we can reward them with the sort of form we've been showing over the last seven matches," added Fowler.

"If we can finish with two wins, you never know what might happen with regard to the play-offs and we'll keep plugging away as long as we can.

"First of all, it's important we produce the goods ourselves tomorrow and, if we do, it wouldn't surprise me if we were still in with a shout, because we always do things the hard way.

"When the gaffer said we needed 10 wins to have a chance, everyone laughed - but we could finish the season with eight wins out of nine and that's a great run.

"There's a little bit of frustration that we didn't kick-start things just a little earlier, but we all have to take responsibility for that and make sure that when the opportunity comes along again, we don't miss out."

Fowler is relishing being at the forefront of the midfield operation again and was delighted to help the Reserves clinch the Pontin's Holidays League Division I East title with Wednesday's 6-2 win at Scunthorpe, when he was on the scoresheet.

"I was chuffed with the result and with the goal - even the referee said `you never score goals!' - and maybe I can have a few more shots tomorrow," he said.

"These final four matches were always a chance to prove myself again and, while I've been disappointed with my two performances so far, I've been working very hard.

"People always talk about me playing 50-yard passes, but the fact I'm putting in a lot of hard graft seems to get overlooked.

"I've had a bit of stick for not playing so well, but when you are putting in the hard yards it's tiring and it's not so easy to hit the passes which catch the eye.

"It disappoints me when people don't recognise I'm working my socks off, but I'm going to give it my best and, hopefully, we can all enjoy a really good finish to the season."
