ALAN LEE was quick to thank his teammates after sealing Town’s second win running.

The striker stepped off the bench (replacing Lee Novak in the 65th minute) to sink derby rivals Oldham with the 86th-minute shot which lifted Lee Clark’s side to third in League I.

“It was a really good all-round performance from the lads,” said the former Crystal Palace frontman.

“I got the goal, which was great personally, but I have to say a huge thank-you to Lee Novak, because he put in a huge amount of work to tire them out and allow me to benefit.

“I’m also grateful for Danny Cadamarteri for putting in a great cross for my goal.

“He knows I like the ball in early in those situations, and it was a top delivery.”

Lee, 33, who has five goals for the season and needs just one more for 100 in league football, had to serve a three-match suspension last month after Town failed in an appeal against his controversial red card at home to Notts County.

“Because of the way the fixtures fell, the ban went on for nearly a month, and that was very, very frustrating, particularly because I felt the sending off was so unfair,” he added.

“I’d been delighted with my season up to that point, and hopefully this goal has got me right back into the swing of things.

“To get any goal is great, but for it to be the winner in an important local derby makes it all the sweeter.

“We played some great football at times.

“Oldham are a hard team, a good team and a clever team. They showed some professionalism, for want of a better word, in slowing the game down to try and stop us getting momentum.

“But we stuck to our task and this was a very solid team performance.

“It was a hard-fought win, but those are all the more pleasing, and now we all want to kick on and get another three points on Saturday.”

Eighth-placed Brentford, who were held goalless at home to Walsall on Saturday, are the next visitors for a Sky-televised clash which kicks off at 5.20.
