Lee Peltier is set to return to Huddersfield Town duty at home to Middlesbrough on Saturday – and keep the captain’s armband.

New signing Mark Hudson, in line for a debut in Chris Powell’s first match as manager, has been skipper at three of his previous clubs.

The experienced deadline-day centre-back arrival from Cardiff City has been touted as a potential captain of Town.

But Powell has confirmed defender Peltier, who returned this summer for a second John Smith’s Stadium stint, will retain the job.

“I see no need to go anywhere near the captaincy,” said Powell, who said former Leeds United player Peltier has trained without problem after two games out with a groin problem.

“Lee is experienced, plays in a number of positions, is a good voice and a good character and knows the club.

“I’m very comfortable with him wearing the armband.”

Town, 21st in the Championship, are chasing a first home win in 10 attempts and Powell, whose side host Wigan Athletic next Tuesday, continued: “We have two chances to get that home win, but of course I want to beat Middlesbrough and then beat Wigan.

“Any manager will say they will take points at any ground, but this is our patch, this is where the majority of our fans watch us, and this is where you create that feel-good factor.

“Good home form is the mainstay of any successful season.”
