Huddersfield Town’s Championship rivals Leeds United, Nottingham Forest and Blackburn Rovers will be placed under a transfer embargo after breaching Financial Fair Play rules.

Meanwhile discussions are ongoing between the Football League and a number of other clubs.

The embargo will be imposed on January 1 for the rest of the season, preventing them from making any transfers apart from loan signings and free agents.

Leeds, Forest and Blackburn all exceeded losses of £8m last season and a fine is also possible.

QPR, Leicester and Burnley, all promoted to the Premier League last season, will have submissions considered by the Football League over the next few weeks.

The League explained in a statement: ““Blackburn, Leeds and Forest all exceeded the maximum permitted deviation of £8m – consisting of a maximum adjusted operating loss of £3m plus a further maximum of £5m of shareholder investment – during the 2013-14 playing season.

“Each club will have the opportunity to have its FFP embargo lifted at the end of the season by demonstrating that it has stayed within the maximum permitted deviation of £6m (£3m operating loss plus £3m shareholder investment) for the 2014-15 season.”

The Football League are also set to announce that the BBC has lost the rights to the weekly highlights show to Channel 5.

It is understood Channel 5 will show the highlights at 9.00pm on Saturday evenings with the prime-time TV slot hugely appealing to the Football League clubs who want to attract younger audiences.

The BBC has scheduled its Football League highlights after Match of The Day – usually starting just before midnight and ending after 1.00am.

The Channel 5 deal will take effect from the start of next season and will also include Capital One Cup highlights.
