Leeds skipper Sol Bamba has warned that a strong bench could be the difference on Saturday - especially with reinforcements of the calibre of Chris Wood, now back from injury.

However, the defender is refusing to get too excited about talk of a late play-off push.

Evans' men have now won their last three Championship games and have risen to 13th in the league, but Bamba was cautious about any top six questions.

Bamba told the Yorkshire Evening Post : “It’s difficult. In Leeds, one week you’re talking about going up. One week you’re talking about going down.

“I just think we need to win as many games as possible and see where that takes us.”

But he maintains that the new depth of options available to Steve Evans could be the difference between winning and losing, starting with Saturday's clash with David Wagner's Huddersfield Town.

Against Blackburn, Wood was on the bench alongside former Town loanee Mustapha Carayol, Stuart Dallas and Luke Murphy.

“That’s what you want – competition for places. That’s what gets you going," added Bamba.

“I think at the minute we’ve got a strong bench and I was talking about this with the gaffer.

“He said a couple of weeks ago that when he looked at his bench, he couldn’t do anything. But at the minute he’s got a strong bench. That’s the key.

“Having Chris (Wood) back is massive.

“We all know the kind of player he is and to have him in the side is clearly important.”

Town fans will be well aware of the threat posed by striker Mirco Antenucci, who has scored four in his last three games.

The Italian was also on the scoresheet at the John Smith's Stadium in October - and Bamba is the latest to add to his praise to the in-form forward.

“His goal [against Blackburn] was unbelievable,” Bamba said.

“To run nearly the whole pitch and finish like that is unbelievable but we know what he’s capable of because we see it in training week in, week out. His head has to be right.

“When he plays week in, week out he’s happy.

“When he’s not playing he’s not happy. At the minute he’s doing very well.”
