LEEDS wiped out their 15-point deficit in the shortest possible time as Dennis Wise’s side secured their fifth straight League I win.

Tresor Kandol scored his fourth goal of the season with a powerful header after 20 minutes to set the Whites on their way to a 2-0 home success against Hartlepool.

Just past the half-hour mark, Richie Barker’s header hit the bar and appeared to cross the line before Leeds keeper Casper Ankergren cleared.

The second home goal came just after the break when Jermaine Beckford exquisitely chipped over Jan Budtz.

Leeds are 13 points behind leaders Leyton Orient, who gained their fourth win out of five games, 1-0 at home to Bournemouth, thanks to Adam Boyd's second-half goal.

Midway through the opening half, Orient goalkeeper Stuart Nelson denied Darren Anderton as the Cherries captain ran through one-on-one.

Orient had more of the play after the break, with Sean Thornton, JJ Melligan and Wayne Corden all posing threats.

The home side's winner came in the 71st minute when Boyd spun cleverly and shot low into the corner.

Craig Curran scored Tranmere’s winner as they ended Carlisle’s unbeaten league record.

Danny Graham missed a great chance to put the Cumbrians in front at Brunton Park when he rounded Rovers keeper Danny Coyne but saw Ian Goodison clear his shot.

Carlisle keeper Keiren Westwood denied Calvin Zola and Robbie Stockdale with a superb double save.

But Paul Arnison’s slip before half-time let in Chris Shuker, who teed up Curran to blast home from six yards.

Two Rickie Lambert goals gave Bristol Rovers a 2-1 win at Luton.
