LEPTON Highlanders overcame Newsome’s Huddersfield FA Cup challenge to set up a teasing third-round derby against Storthes Hall.
The West Riding County Amateur League pair will meet on Saturday, December 17 after Lepton, who lead Division I, won 4-2 at Newsome while Premier Division Storthes Hall defeated AFC Waterloo 7-2.
More than 200 watched Lepton face Newsome, who are third in the District League top flight, at Primrose Hill and were treated to a thrilling tie which Highlanders manager Jimmy Martin called “a great advert for local football”.
Newsome went ahead just two minutes in, when a lightning move involving Bradshaw and Robshaw led to Jobarteh volleying home.
Lepton replied within a minute, when brothers Ash and Paul Flynn put through Paul Pyke, who was fouled in the penalty area and netted the resultant spot kick.
Lepton’s Nick McMahon came close with a 25th-minute effort before Ash Flynn made it 2-1 after being set up by Ross Martin.
Flynn had the ball in the net after half an hour only for the goal to be disallowed for a foul – and Newsome took advantage of the let-off when Marshall headed home powerfully from a corner.
Ash Flynn put Lepton back ahead on the hour when he latched onto Pyke’s pass and rounded the keeper.
Then defender Josh Cooke clinched it when he drilled home a shot after a penalty-area scramble.
