LIAM RIDEHALGH is ready to help fire Town into the fourth round of the FA Cup – if called upon.

The 19-year-old left-back made his 22nd appearance in Monday’s televised League I derby victory over Sheffield Wednesday.

He’s enjoyed every minute of his match action so far, but ahead of tomorrow’s home third-round clash with Dover Athletic says he’s taking it one game at a time as he bids to establish himself in Lee Clark’s squad.

“It’s been a fantastic season for me so far,” said the Halifax-based Town academy product who stepped up because of experienced Gary Naysmith’s toe injury.

“I’m only young, still very much learning the game, so to have been involved so many times is a huge bonus, and when I play, I really do enjoy it.

“Gary Naysmith has been a huge help to me, passing on tips and advice, and it’s something I really appreciate.

“Graham Carey has also played left-back, and he’s someone I can learn from too, and my aim is to make the most of my chances, and when I’m not in the team, provide competition for the player who is.”

Ridehalgh, who numbers both first-round clashes with Cambridge United among his 18 starts to date, believes Town have made a bright start to 2011, with a 2-2 draw at Carlisle preceding their 1-0 win over Wednesday.

“It was obviously disappointing not to beat Carlisle after being two up, but they’re a physical side and they put us under pressure towards the end.

“Their first goal gave them a lift, and we were finding it hard to break out as a unit, but at least we picked up a point.

“Following up with all three against Wednesday will give us confidence, and we’ll be working hard to make sure we get past Dover and into the next round of the FA Cup.”
