MARK LAWRENSON is backing Town to do Tranmere a favour by winning at Exeter.

Lee Clark’s side, of course, are desperate for victory as they bid to finish as high up League I as possible.

And bettering Exeter’s result would ensure survival in the division for the Birkenhead team, who head to rock-bottom Stockport.

Match of the Day pundit Lawrenson, the former Liverpool and Republic of Ireland ace, left, is hoping Rovers succeed.

He said: “I think a lot of people in football would like to see them to stay in League I if only for Les Parry – a great bloke who has done a fine job.

“After the dreadful start to the season they suffered, if you’d offered them still being in with a shout of staying up going into the final game of the campaign they would have snapped your hand off.

“It’s never ideal to rely on other results but Stockport away is the nicest fixture they could have had and the victory over Millwall last week proves what they are capable of.

“They will fight all the way, and Huddersfield needing to win at Exeter can only help the cause.”
