LINDLEY WMC hope their powerhouse midfield, including a goalkeeper, will prove too strong for Heywood Irish Centre in tomorrow’s Rollinson Cup final at Laund Hill (11.00).

Graham McLachlan wears the No1 shirt for leaders Bay Athletic in the West Riding County Amateur League Premier Division, but he’s an influential midfielder for Martyn Byrne’s Lindley Division II line-up.

So, too, is goalscoring wideman Brighton Mugadza, and Division I Heywoods will have to keep a close eye on him if they are to prevent Lindley from adding to their Cup wins against Gas Club Warehouse (9-0), Marsh Lib (3-0) and Honley Socialist (2-1) in the semis.

Heywoods have a couple of injury worries for the showpiece at YMCA.

Skipper John Higgins is battling to overcome a hamstring injury, while striker Jon-Paul Flynn also has a knock and will have to pass a late fitness test.

Manager Paul Quinn – who has a County Cup final on the agenda against HT Sports at Woodlesford a week on Thursday – reckons the club’s busy schedule is starting to take its toll but says his players are looking forward to tomorrow’s final.

Heywoods had a bye in the first round of the competition and had to survive a penalty shoot-out against holders Team Forward in the second, Heywoods going through 4-2 after a 2-2 draw.

In the semi-finals, it was a much more comfortable 4-1 success against Cricketers Arms and, after all their success this season, they will be aiming to carry that form into the showpiece.
