THE Tottenham Hotspur Supporters' Club was bursting with activity.

They were making arrangements to convey thousands of supporters to Huddersfield on January 6 to cheer on their team, in the FA Cup-tie against Town.

Spurs boss Arthur Rowe revealed to the Examiner's London correspondent, however, that: "We have a hectic start to our Christmas matches with a match against Arsenal on our own ground."

And one Spurs player revealed that his side were particularly keen to reverse the result the previous month when Town won 3-2 with goals by Jimmy Glazzard, Harold Hassall and Vic Metcalfe in front of 39,519 at Leeds Road.

That defeat began a Tottenham slide and they had not won a game since, although they had notched draws against Middlesbrough and Sheffield Wednesday. Previous to that Spurs played 11 First Division matches without defeat.

Town and Spurs last met in the FA Cup at White Hart Lane in 1934, with the then centre-half Rowe captained Spurs and Alf Young led Town.

Town won the Cup-tie 2-0 with goals by Jeff Taylor and Glazzard in front of a Leeds Road crowd of 25,390.

* Fartown lost a low-scoring game 8-7 against Bradford Northern at Odsal and then didn't play again until Christmas Day, when they visited Halifax and lost 9-5.
