MALVIN KAMARA says he’s looking forward, not back after Town’s confirmation of his release.

As the latest round of rumours linked the Galpharm club with Hartlepool defender Michael Nelson and Coventry striker Robbie Simpson, Town announced Kamara will not be offered a new contract.

The development caps a season to forget for the 25-year-old Londoner, who made just six appearances – four for Town, all from the bench, and two in a loan spell at Grimsby.

Injured soon after Lee Clark’s arrival as manager, Kamara admits his departure, along with that of striker Danny Broadbent and defender Dan Codman, comes as no surprise.

“There’s never really been a chance for me to show him what I’m capable of,” said the winger, who has been having specialist treatment on both knees at the Lilleshall Sports Injury Rehab centre.

“I played in the first reserve match after the manager came in, and I was on the bench for two first-team games over the New Year period but didn’t come on.

“Then I got injured, and it’s been a bit of a nightmare, because I’ve had problems with both my knees. Things are improving now, thanks to both Dave Buckby at Town and the staff at Lilleshall, and I’ve started running again.

“I’m ready to work hard through the summer break, and although it’s early days in terms of transfers, there have been a couple of inquiries from other clubs.”

Signed by Andy Ritchie two years ago, the former MK Dons, Cardiff and Port Vale man played a part in all but three of Town’s 53 games in his first season.

“Things were going really well, but than Stan Ternent came in as manager and brought his own ideas, which didn’t involve me,” added Kamara.

“The loan spell at Grimsby didn’t work out as I had wanted, then after Lee Clark’s arrival brought me new hope, I got injured.

“I had expected to be released, and while I’m disappointed at the way things have ended at Huddersfield, I know these things happen in football.

“Now I’m firmly focused on the future, not the past, and I’m looking forward to meeting my agent and seeing where my career takes me.”

Academy products Broadbent and Codman ended the season on loan at Harrogate Town and Wakefield FC respectively.

Broadbent, who also had loan stints at Rushden and Gateshead, made six Town appearances, all as a substitute, while fellow 19-year-old Codman, was unable to make the breakthrough at first-team level.
