Huddersfield Town’s Championship rivals Brentford have parted company with head coach Marinus Dijkhuizen and replaced him with Lee Carsley until the end of the season.

And Rotherham United manager Steve Evans and assistant Paul Raynor, the former Town striker, have left the South Yorkshire club following a meeting with chairman Tony Stewart.

Dijkhuizen has taken charge of just nine matches since arriving in West London and leaves Brentford 19th in the table with two wins.

The Dutchman’s assistant Roy Hendriksen has also left, with development squad coach Carsley promoted from within.

The 41-year-old former Everton midfielder Carsley, whose previous coaching positions came at Coventry City and Sheffield United, will lead the side for the first time against Birmingham on Tuesday.

Brentford recruited former Excelsior manager Dijkhuizen in the summer following the controversial departure of Mark Warburton.

Warburton had steered the club to promotion from League I and into the Championship play-offs at the first attempt.

But he left due to differences with owner Matthew Benham over the future direction of the club.

After a slow start to the season, Rotherham have won their last two.

The club released a statement which read: “Following a meeting between the chairman and manager it was decided Rotherham United Football Club would part company with first-team manager Steve Evans and his assistant Paul Raynor.

“During the said meeting it became clear that both parties at the present time wished to head in a different direction.

“The meeting was at all times positive, constructive and straightforward. It was clear that the chairman and the management team only wanted what they felt was best for Rotherham United Football Club.

“The club would like to place on record our thanks to Steve and Paul for their huge contribution over the last three and a half years.

“Moving on Eric Black will assume first team duties for the time being.

“It has all come as a surprise but Rotherham United must move forward and the search for a new first-team manager will begin immediately.

“Replacing Steve Evans and Paul Raynor will indeed be a strenuous task for the board.”
